  22. Ok,  I have made a more recent but very buggy app avaialble.
  23. It can't edit -- try and it will destroy your files!
  24.   But you can browse. No embedded graphics unfortunately.

  26. Your development proposal sounds great..... if you are in a position  
  27. to enhance the NeXT editor, then we could come to an arrangement...

  33. WorldWideWeb_0.16.tar.Z is the only wysiwyg hypertext editor for the
  34. NeXT.  It has limitations and bugs -- it can't access Gopher, FTP  
  35. sites,
  36. etc.  But it is a hypertext editor!

  38. Note this app is compiled for NextStep 3.0 and won't work with 2.1.
  39. There is no way round this; don't ask!  (The Project file is
  40. converted by the ProjectBuilder to a version 3 project file
  41. when you first compile for version 3.  The version 3 project
  42. file won't work with 2.0 (Interface builder and project builder
  43. shared a file and an app in 2.x), and so there is no going back!
  44. The 3.x app won't work under 2.x as it needs 3.x shared libaries.)

  49. The file labelled 1.0 is a pre-alpha browser which uses the libwww
  50. library, so you can get multimedia files etc etc.  Does doc
  51. format conversion, etc.

  70. Sorry if I am covering ground covered elsewhere (FAQ's), but I  
  71. thought this might be an appropriate forum for my questions.

  73. I am investigating the possibility of using WWW as the central app  
  74. for our proposed electronic library system (Xel - Xavier electronic  
  75. library).  Having come here recently (2 months ago) from a  
  76. CD-ROM/Hypertext company, WWW appeals to me for a number of reasons.   
  77. I have also worked with various _SGML_, or _SGML-like_ engines (OWL  
  78. Guide, CDAuthor Hypertext, KRS, PLS, Hyperwriter, WorldView, IDEAS,  
  79. Mark-It, etc) and would like to build on that.

  81. The library has four NeXT machines, which will form the seed of the  
  82. system, and they will be the platform where capabilities of the Web  
  83. are first demonstrated (I hope).  I would like to prepare a demo of a  
  84. home page providing access to regional resources (ie. telnet'ing to  
  85. other library catalogues, ftp sites, etc) sometime in the next few  
  86. weeks.

  89. I realize the latest version (0.16) of the NeXT Hypermedia  
  90. Browser/Editor does not support telnet, gopher, etc., but I would  
  91. like to use the NeXT for these early demos if possible.  Besides, I  
  92. am new to NeXT, love it, and would like to use it for document  
  93. creation/development. Once I get into the development environment in  
  94. more detail I would be interested in helping in any way I can with  
  95. the NeXT WWW app.

  98. is there a way to telnet from the current version in some way?

  101. - If not, I have recently loaded MouseX for X11R5 - does anybody have  
  102. any experience with Viola or other X11 apps using this version?

  108. away from DOS/Windows if possible for now.
